Singer Gerardo, known for his ’90s hit, “Rico Suave” lived up to his song, sleeping with over 500 women, many of them while married to wife Kathy.
Now, the singer-turned-preacher and reality star is sharing how he put his marriage back together, documenting his life on his VH1 reality series “Suave Says.”
“I hit rock bottom 50 times,” Gerardo told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Thursday’s Access Hollywood Live, explaining that he estimates that in his lifetime he’s slept with 500-600 women, including many while he was married.

The singer explained that looking to a higher power helped put him on a faithful path.
“I had become an executive in the music business… One day in my office, I got on my knees and started crying. I had no excuse not to not serve the Lord 100 percent, and since then my life has changed,” he explained.
Kathy, who appears with Gerardo on the reality series, which also features their kids, Blanca, Nadia and Jaden, also opened up about his cheating past.

“I didn’t know, I really didn’t know. I was young. He was my first relationship. I had babies right away. My focus was on my kids,” she said. “People would ask me if I thought he cheated on me and because he had that persona, but I would say no.”
Kathy also strayed from their marriage after finding out that Gerardo had been unfaithful for 10 years.
“He changed as a cheating husband, but he still didn’t change [being] emotionally there for me and no one paid attention to me and I haven’t had attention in so long, so I just strayed,” she told Billy and Kit.

When VH1 approached Gerardo and Kathy to star in a reality series, they were separated as Gerardo pursued a life in politics and preaching.
“I was chasing this other dream and forgetting about the dream God gave me,” he explained. “They’re the one good thing that I have left.”
