Gabrielle Union Talks Wanting A Prenup With Dwyane Wade, Charles Barkley Feud

Before Gabrielle Union got married to Dwyane Wade, the actress made sure there was a prenup – for both of their sakes.

The “Being Mary Jane” star stopped by Access Hollywood Live on Wednesday, where she got candid about her premarital agreement with her NBA star husband.

“[These are] our second marriages and in [my] first marriage, I lost a lot of money to someone who was not necessarily extra supportive,” Gabrielle, who was married to NFL star Chris Howard from 2001 to 2005, told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover.

“You know how Kobe [Bryant] says, ‘You weren’t in the gym shooting with me’… you weren’t on set, you weren’t learning my lines, you weren’t getting up early with me. I was making a great living on my own and you misappropriated your funds, not my fault, and when it came time to end it I had to give up a lot of money and it really made the love feel very conditional,” she said of her previous marriage. “I never wanted to have that feeling again and I would never want anyone else to feel like the love was conditional based on stuff.”

So when it came time to tying the knot again – she and Dwyane wed in August 2014 – the actress had a clear vision of how their finances would be handled.

“I got my stuff, you got your stuff. I got my career, you got your career, and let’s just build something together,” she explained. “I wanted to just take that off the table. I’m not out there with him, leading his team in scoring and being an 11-time All-Star. I support him, but that’s what normal, decent people do. You support.”

Speaking of support, Gabrielle has been very vocal when it comes to defending Dwyane’s skills on the court, especially when called into question by Charles Barkley.

“Why are we still really putting a lot of weight in what Charles said?” she said, when asked about him questioning if Dwyane should have been named as a NBA All-Star. “It just reeks of sour grapes.”

As for her past Twitter spat with Charles, Gabrielle was not fazed.

“It’s like playing Scrabble with a toddler, I can’t,” she added.
