Fitness Guru Richard Simmons Dead At 76

Richard Simmons, the energetic TV personality, and fitness coach has died at age 76, Access Hollywood can confirm.

Two law enforcement sources tell NBC News that the exercise guru was found unresponsive at his home in the Hollywood Hills on July 13.

The Los Angeles Fire Department and Los Angeles Police Department told Access that they reported to his home after receiving a call around 10 a.m.

Simmons died one day after his 76th birthday.

His death also comes after he gave a rare interview to People, revealing he would celebrate his birthday by blowing out a candle or two but “the candle will probably be on a zucchini. You know, I’m a vegetarian.”

He also told the outlet how he was feeling ahead of his special day.

“I feel good! I am grateful that I’m here, that I am alive for another day. I’ll spend my birthday doing what I do every day, which is to help people.”

That was the first interview the fitness guru had done in some time as he’s been out of the public eye for years.

His life update comes months after he shared that he had undergone a painful treatment for skin cancer on his face back in March.

Days before that health update, the fitness personality clarified an earlier statement he made regarding his health. On March 18, the Richard went on his verified Facebook page to tell fans he is “dying,” but hours later he clarified his remarks.
