They’ve been together for years, but Elton John and David Furnish will soon make their union official.
The two – who have been in a British civil partnership for eight years – plan to wed in May, now that gay couples can legally marry in England.
“We don’t feel the need to take an extra step legally. But since we’re committed for life, we feel it’s really important to take that step, and take advantage of that amazing change in legislation,” David told the Las Vegas Review Journal in a new interview. “We all live by example.”
While their 2005 reception celebrating their civil ceremony was extremely lavish, David said their wedding will be very simple.
“I think what we’ll do is go to a registry office in England in May, and take the boys with us, and a couple of witnesses,” he said, referencing his and Elton’s sons, 3-year-old Zachary and Elijah, 16 months.
