Ellen Page came out this year, and the “X-Men” actress says she’s been overwhelmed by the positive response she’s received.
“I’ve experienced basically nothing but support, it’s actually really kind of blown my mind,” Ellen told Access Hollywood at the “X-Men: Days of Future Past” junket on Saturday in New York City. “I thought there would be a lot more viciousness.”
The 27-year-old star said that even in this more accepting day and age, she was still afraid of a backlash after revealing her sexual orientation.
“Maybe that’s because you’re afraid and for some reason you have this perspective, because of probably your own anxiety,” she said, of why she thinks she expected a negative reaction. “So to me, that’s been the most beautiful thing, because it’s so indicative of the change that’s happened and the growth that’s happening.
“So for me, it’s been basically nothing but support,” she added.
Ellen is extremely proud of this installment of the “X-Men” franchise and said fans won’t be disappointed when the movie hits theaters on May 23.
“I loved it,” she said, recalling the first time she saw the finished product. “I was totally blown away, totally on the edge of my seat and also, really moved, you know, I found it really emotional. So for me, it hit all the marks.”
And the actress, who plays Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat in the Marvel films, would happily return for more “X-Men” movies.
“I would love to be [in the next film],” she told Access. “I hope to get to explore Kitty more – that would be wonderful. I would love to do something a little more flushed out, that be great.”
