Eddie Cibrian & LeAnn Rimes Open Up About Romance: ‘We’re Human, We Fell In Love’

LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian have finally opened up about falling for each other last year, a romance that rocked Hollywood as the two were both married at the time.

“The truth is that we’re human beings… We make mistakes and we learn from them, but we’re human. We fell in love,” Eddie told Robin Roberts for Wednesday’s “In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts” on ABC. “We’re talking about something that’s over a year, year and-a-half old, really and we’re still together and we’re madly in love.”

LeAnn and Eddie, co-stars in the Lifetime movie “Northern Lights” were accused of having an affair by the tabloids, something he denied at the time. The two eventually divorced their spouses (Eddie was married to Brandi Glanville, with whom he has two children, LeAnn to Dean Sheremet), and came out as a couple publicly several months later.

“I think people are finally seeing that,” Eddie said of the public recognizing the two are in love, “But it doesn’t mean that people will accept it or the tabloids will stop trying to print lies and try to tear us apart or tear us down.”

Speaking to Robin, LeAnn said that what happened between them just… happened.

“It happens every day to so many people…You had two couples whose marriages didn’t work who really stumbled upon each other and fell in love,” the singer said. “I can’t change [critics’] minds. Nothing I’m going to say is going to change it. I do know that and I have accepted that.”

LeAnn added that she doesn’t allow herself to look back with “regret.”

“That’s just not me. What happened is not who I am, period,” LeAnn told Robin. “But I do know how much I love him. So I’ve always said I don’t live my life with regret. I can’t.”

Later, on Twitter, LeAnn followed up on her “regret” comment, finally admitting her relationship with Eddie was an affair, and noting it was something that troubled her deeply.

“I said ‘I don’t live my life in regret.’ I did not and never will say I do not ‘regret’ my affair. I have had moments of regret and guilt over and over again, but i refuse to live my life in it,” LeAnn Tweeted, from what appears to be her account. “Any person working on moving on with their life in health and happiness must let go of those feelings. I’ve said I’m sorry for the hurt I have caused so many times and did again in the Robin interview. I wish happiness and peace for us all. Life is too short for hate and regret, and too long to not tell the truth. God doesn’t make mistakes, we do as humans and hopefully we take away lessons from each experience, humbled by the power of forgivenes. “
