Dwayne
“The Rock” Johnson is speaking out about his personal “low
point.”
The
“Ballers” star took to Twitter on Thursday to thank supporters for
their encouragement after he got candid about his past bout with depression.
“Thx fam,” he wrote. “Hardest thing sometimes
(especially men) is asking for help. I wish I did. You’re never alone. Speak
up.”

The actor discussed his struggle during an appearance on the
Nov. 15 episode of Oprah Winfrey’s “Master Class” series, revealing
that he’d found himself battling the disorder after being cut from a Canadian
Football League team at age 23.
The Rock said he was living in a small apartment with his
parents around that time, when his dad told him that pursuing a pro-wrestling
career instead of trying to return to football was “the worst mistake
you’ll ever make.”

However, his dad, a former wrestler himself, eventually
started training his talented son and helped cultivate his status as a WWE
icon.
One of the most crucial elements of depression recovery, The
Rock said, is finding common ground with others.
“I found that, with depression, one of the most important
things you could realize is that you’re not alone,” he said.
“You’re
not the first to go through it; you’re not going to be the last to go through
it. And oftentimes, it happens you just feel like you’re alone. You feel like
it’s only you. You’re in your bubble,” he continued. “I wish I had
someone at that time who could just pull me aside and [say], ‘Hey, it’s gonna
be OK. It’ll be OK.'”

“Hold
onto that fundamental quality of faith,” he said. “Have faith that on
the other side of your pain is something good.”
