The
television world is mourning a legend. Doris Roberts, best known for playing “Everybody
Loves Raymond” matriarch Marie Barone, has passed away.
The 90-year-old
TV icon died Sunday night in Los Angeles, her friend and publicist Janet Daily
confirmed to Access Hollywood on Monday.
Following
the news, Doris’ “Everybody Loves Raymond” colleagues shared their
sadness over the loss on social media.
Patricia
Heaton Tweeted a tribute to her onscreen mother-in-law, remembering the
“privilege” she had to work with Doris on the long-running sitcom.
“Truly the end of an era. My wonderful TV mother-in-law
and ELR nemesis Doris Roberts was a consummate
professional from whom I learned so much,” Patricia wrote. “She was funny and tough and loved live, living it to
the fullest. Nothing gave her greater joy than her three wonderful
grandchildren, of whom she was so proud. It truly was a privilege Doris. I love
you and miss you.”

“Raymond” creator Phil Rosenthal
also remembered Doris with kind words, referring to her as a pivotal member of
the show’s family.

friend.”

Doris won four Emmys for portraying Marie over “Raymond’s” nine-season run, in addition to the trophy she took home in 1983 for her
performance on “St. Elsewhere.”
The New York native found success as a television actress after a two-decade Broadway career, and appeared in dozens of films.

Doris is
survived by her son, Michael Cannata Jr., whom she had with her first husband.
Her second husband, William Goyen, died in 1983.
