Donald Sutherland, ‘Hunger Games’ & ‘Ordinary People’ Star, Dead At 88

Hollywood is mourning the loss of an icon. Donald Sutherland, an Oscar recipient known for his acclaimed work in “Ordinary People,” “Pride and Prejudice,” the “Hunger Games” franchise and more, has died. He was 88.

His son, actor Kiefer Sutherland, announced the sad news in an emotional Instagram post on June 20, sharing a black-and-white throwback photo of the pair alongside a loving tribute to Donald’s legacy on and off-screen.

“With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away. I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived,” he wrote.

A statement from talent agency CAA confirmed that Donald died in Miami on Thursday following a long illness.

His seven-decade career included nearly 200 acting credits that spanned genres from comedy to blockbusters and prestige dramas. He was last seen opposite David Oyelowo in the Paramount+ series “Lawmen: Bass Reeves.”
