Dennis Quaid is father to three children – including 3-year-old twins with wife Kimberly Buffington – and the “Soul Surfer” actor said his twins communicate with each other in an unintelligible vernacular, much like the twin boys whose enthusiastic ramblings took over YouTube this week.
“He’s doing standup!” Dennis exclaimed to Access Hollywood, laughing, of the now famous McEntee twins, Sam and Ren, while viewing the YouTube clip for the first time at the “Soul Surfer” junket in Los Angeles on Thursday.
“It’s that secret language they got – our [twins] have that too,” Dennis told Access. “They’re so bonded that they had that secret language where no one knew what they were talking about, but they did.”
The 56-year-old actor plays Bethany Hamilton’s father in the upcoming story of the inspirational surfer who lost her arm to a shark. Although the role was difficult to tackle as a real life dad, Dennis’ hard work paid off when Tom Hamilton (Bethany’s father) gave Dennis his seal of approval at a “Soul Surfer” screening.
“I always feel like I have an added responsibility when I’m playing somebody real — a real life person,” Dennis told Access. “So, I try to tell the story from their point of view for my part of it, within the structure of the screenplay.
“Tom [Hamilton] gave me a big hug and said, ‘I really appreciate the way that you played me,’” Dennis later added. “That was a great compliment. It was good to feel that I did him justice in his mind.”
Catch Dennis, along with former “Bridge to Terabithia” star AnnaSophia Robb and Carrie Underwood, when “Soul Surfer” hits theaters on April 8.
