Debbie Gibson recently revealed she has been struggling with Lyme disease after suffering a tick bite.
How is the “Sing Your Face Off” judge feeling now?
“I liken it to this: it was a very big roller coaster last year – I’m on the baby roller coaster now,” Debbie told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Wednesday’s Access Hollywood Live, when asked if she’s completely recovered from the disease. “So, generally on the upswing. [I have] good days, bad days.”
There isn’t a cure for Lyme disease and Debbie said she will most likely continue to deal with flare-ups in the future.
“It’s something that keeps flaring, so…,” she said, adding that flare-up symptoms include “wiry nerve pain,” and “extreme food sensitivities,” as well feeling like she has the flu.
The singer was prompted to reveal her diagnosis after receiving hateful comments posted by users on her Instagram and Twitter photos, making fun of her for looking thinner than normal.

“The message in that is you never know what someone’s going through, so don’t judge,” she said. “And what I found as a woman is I was never more happy to gain weight. And I felt really like, wow, I have a whole new view of my body because being healthy is the key… I feel so much stronger now.”
As for her new reality competition gig (she, along with Darrell Hammond, judge celebrities impersonating famous singers), Debbie said she’s loving every minute of it.
“It’s so much fun – I just was like, this is a dream gig, I’m a lucky girl,” she said. “It’s amazing.”
“Sing Your Face Off” airs Saturday nights at 9/8c on ABC.
