David Hasselhoff Talks ‘Dancing’: ‘It’s Like Jumping Out Of An Airplane’

David Hasselhoff hasn’t yet hit the ballroom on “Dancing with the Stars,” but he told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson he has a good idea on how to get ahead with the viewers.

“You’ve just got to look good, hit your mark, you know, be charming,” David said of his ideas for conquering the “Dancing” fans. “It’s kind of like jumping out of an airplane. You just kind of hang on to your dance partner and hope the shoot opens. And if it opens and you land, maybe you’ll make it to the next round.”

While he is known for his lengthy television career thanks to shows like “Knight Rider,” where he played a crime fighter; “Baywatch,” which saw him serving as a life guard boss; and “America’s Got Talent,” where he helped send undiscovered artists on their way to stardom, David told Shaun he is heading to “DWTS” with a little bit of dancing experience too.

“I danced in a dress in ‘The Producers.’ I wore a dress and high heels and played Roger DeBris. And then I had 50 dancers behind me doing the same dance when I was playing the gay Hitler [character],” David said of his roles in the stage production. “That was a huge challenge for me, but it wasn’t what this thing has got prepared for [me].”

The actor said he thinks he’ll do best in whichever dance “has got the most attitude,” but if he runs into trouble, he has a “Knight Rider”-worthy backup plan.

“When things get bad – ‘Pick me up KITT,’” he said, referring to his four-wheeled “Knight Rider” companion.

“Dancing With the Stars” premieres on ABC on September 20.
