Damon Thomas said he would talk to his lawyers about claims reported on the cover of Star magazine.
The mag’s latest cover comes with the headline, “Kim’s Secret Marriage” – referring to Kim Kardashian’s pre-fame union with the music producer, a relationship that the star has, in fact, discussed several times over the years.
When reached by Access Hollywood on Wednesday, Damon told Access he was angry about Star’s article — and was consulting with his attorneys on his next step.
“This story is very upsetting,” he said. “I am talking to my lawyers about what I need to do next.”
The mag obtained divorce court documents in which Kim claimed that the producer, “punched her, threatened her life and instructed her to get plastic surgery.”
Since speaking to Damon on Wednesday, on Thursday, Access obtained the papers in question, in which Kim alleges several violent incidents during their four-year marriage, which lasted from January 2000 until being legally dissolved in February 2004.
“Damon first hit me a few months after we were married,” she claimed in the papers. “One incident occurred on the day Damon and I were going skydiving with Justin Timberlake. Before we left our home, Damon hit me in the face and cut my lip open. I fell into the bed frame and banged my knee hard. I was limping when we went skydiving.”
In another incident, Kim claims that Damon “became enraged and punched me in the face” after she had paged a friend – and at another time, she stated, “he held me up against the wall with his hands around my neck and threatened to choke me.”
She added that she was too “afraid” to reach out to authorities.
“I thought about calling the police but was afraid and decided not to do so,” she claimed. She also claimed that, “sometimes, Damon would not allow me to leave [the house],” and that, “in March 2000, Damon told me to quit my job… He said he wanted to know where I was at all times.”
The papers were filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court. Damon was the Petitioner.
When Kim was interviewed on the subject in 2007 by Bossip.com, she didn’t address such claims.
In the interview, Kim explained, “I was married right when I turned 19 to 22… I was married for four years.”
She did tell the site that, “there were problems from the start.”
“I think that I thought things would go away if you got married,” she continued. “It was worth it all, because I’ve learned so much from it.”
And in 2008, she addressed the marriage on her personal blog without going into the details.
“Wow! Getting married at 19 is very young. Trust me, I know!” she wrote in response to a fan letter. “I realized you just don’t know yourself yet at that young age! I am a completely different person now than when I was 19, even different than I was five years ago. I really don’t condone getting a divorce but for me it was what I needed to do to be healthy and get out of a situation that just wasn’t right for me.”
At the time, the star added that she had gone against her parents’ wishes.
“I was young and went against my parents, too. Although they didn’t disown me, they were very upset with me! I stayed in the relationship to prove to others that I was going to make it work! That wasn’t for the right reasons.”
“Just be strong and follow your heart!” she concluded. “Life is too short to be unhappy!”
On Thursday, neither Damon nor Kim could be reached for comment to Access.
