Celine Dion has made her highly anticipated return to performing at the Paris Olympics!
The “My Heart Will Go On” songstress concluded the Opening Ceremony on Friday night with a stunning rendition of Édith Piaf’s “Hymne A L’Amour.”
Celine belted out the French ballad high from the Eiffel Tower, high above the crowd and wore a glittering fringe gown for the special moment.
This marks Celine’s first public performance since she revealed to fans that she had been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder, more than a year ago.
“While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what’s been causing all of the spasms that I’ve been having … These spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk, and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to,” she told fans in a December 2022 video announcement.
Celine paused her touring schedule to prioritize her treatment, a decision that she found emotional to make.
“All I know is singing. It’s what I’ve done all my life, and it’s what I love to do the most … I miss seeing all of you, being on the stage, performing for you. I always give 100 percent when I do my shows, but my condition is not allowing me to give you that right now,” she shared at the time.
Celine recently gave fans a candid glimpse into her health journey in the Amazon Prime Video documentary “I Am: Celine Dion.”
When Access Hollywood spoke to Celine at the premiere of the film in June, she shared how eager she was to return to music and her fans.
“I did not disappear from what I love the most: singing and performing for my fans,” she said. “They’ve been supporting me all my life. It took a while, because it’s a rare disease, and I had to go through and find a great team of doctors, and to go by elimination and finding what’s going on,” she shared.
“I wanted people to know that I did not disappear, turn my back and not finish my career and I’m done and that’s it – no,” she further emphasized. “I’m still extremely passionate, and I miss my fans. They got me here where I am today.”
