Cathriona White’s Friend Remembers Her As ‘Sweet, Happy’ Girl

A friend of Jim Carrey’s on-again/off-again girlfriend Cathriona White is speaking out following her death from an apparent suicide.

Access spoke to Sam Brittan, a producer on “Bunker 731,” a film the Irish-born makeup artist worked on, who said she “never” appeared depressed.

“That’s what is so troubling about this. All the memories I have of her are happy and joyful. What a sweet, happy fun girl she was. There was a light that emanated from her. I can’t believe it happened,” he explained.

As reported on AccessHollywood.com, Los Angeles County Coroner Assistant Chief Ed Winter said pills and a note were found near the body of the 30-year-old White – something that was surprising to her friend and colleague.

“I had no knowledge of any sort of drug addiction or problems or anything like that. I don’t remember her being anything but professional. After wrap, if there were drinks, she wasn’t one of the partiers, let’s put it that way,” he said.

Sam said Cathriona had hopes of moving from behind the camera to in front of it.

“She loved what she did. She took great pride in her work doing makeup and she really enjoyed it. She was also so beautiful and had great charisma. We talked about modeling and acting. I thought she’d be great at either. She talked about exploring those possibilities,” he continued. “Every set I’ve worked on, the crew guys were in love with her. One guy would say, ‘Do you think I should ask her out? Is it inappropriate?’ Another guy told me, ‘She’s the kind of girl I’d marry if I could.’ This is not an exaggeration. She was just an adorable and sweet person. She had this energy. All the guys wanted to date her and ask her out.”

Sam explained that after Cathriona began dating Jim, he saw less of her—though Sam and Cathriona did keep in touch via text, and were in communication this year. He also said she kept her relationship with the actor very private.

“I wanted to work with her on everything. I wanted to hire her for something. I tried to get a hold of her and didn’t hear anything back. After a while I got worried. I thought maybe she went back to Ireland, so I thought hopefully I’d talk to her when she got back,” he told Access. “Then I was asking a friend about her and they showed me a picture of Cat and Jim on the beach in Malibu. She never told any of us about it. I only ever talked to her about it once and she said she didn’t like how the press was harassing her family in Ireland. That was all she said about it.”

The Minnesota-born filmmaker told Access he hopes others see past who Cathriona was dating and remember her accomplishments and spirit.

“She was a talented, hard working person and not just Jim Carrey’s girlfriend. She was legitimately a really great makeup artist. I worked with her five times and that was why. She was just an absolute joy to be around and was really talented at her job,” he said.
