Cate Blanchett: I’ve Had Relationships With Women ‘Many Times’

Cate Blanchett has opened up about her love life.

The actress, who will soon be seen in “Carol,” a film about two women who fall in love (based on Patricia Highsmith’s 1952 novel “The Price of Salt”), revealed she has had relationships with women in the past.

When asked by Variety if her role in “Carol” is her “first turn as a lesbian,” Cate replied, “On film — or in real life?”

Pressed for details about her past real life romances, and whether they include relationships with women, the Oscar winner responded, “Yes. Many times.”

While there will be a love scene in “Carol,” between Cate and her co-star Rooney Mara, the actress said it won’t be explicit.

“It’s not ‘Blue Is the Warmest Color,'” she said, referencing 2013 French film, which won the Cannes Film Festival’s prestigious Palme d’Or award. “That’s not the ambition of the film.”
