Carrie Underwood Officially Announced As ‘American Idol’ Judge 20 Years After Winning Competition

Carrie Underwood is returning to “American Idol”!

On Thursday, “American Idol” and ABC announced that the country singer is heading back to the competition series – 20 years after she won it in 2005 – as its newest judge.

Carrie will be replacing Katy Perry, who left at the end of last season in May, joining Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan on the judging panel. The new season is set to premiere in 2025.

In a video posted on social media announcing the 42-year-old’s new gig, the Grammy winning artist looks back on how “Idol” skyrocketed her into fame.

“I went from nobody knowing my name to tens of millions of people watching the show. I’m proud of everything that I was able to accomplish on the show, and I’m so proud of everything that I’ve accomplished since.”
