British Police Investigating Alleged Assault Involving Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse is at the center of an assault scandal, following claims she attacked a man in London on Wednesday night.

“Police are investigating an alleged assault on Chalk Farm Road at approximately 3:20 AM on April 23,” a member of Britain’s Metropolitan Police told People. “A 38-year-old man [contacted] Kentish Town police station and alleged a 24-year-old woman had assaulted him. No arrests have been made as yet but inquiries continue.”

Winehouse, the Grammy award-winning singer, allegedly headbutted a man described in the UK tabloid, The Sun, as a “Good Samaritan,” who tried to hail a taxi for the “Rehab” singing star.

In an article the paper billed, “Amy’s Most Depraved Night Yet,” The Sun claimed Amy also punched another person in the face – Moroccan musician, Mustapha el Mounmi — after a dispute over a pool table.

“I feel so angry,” Mounmi said. “She smashed my face hard. I could not hit back – a woman.”

Winehouse reportedly spent the evening with at least one member of Babyshambles, the band which includes the currently incarcerated singer, Peter Doherty.

According to The Sun, the trouble started after Winehouse hit a North London bar with one of the Babyshambles members. Inside the undisclosed pub, she allegedly hit Mounmi.

Afterward, the paper reported Amy went to her home, but stepped out once again to visit Bar Tok at around 2 AM, where she allegedly caused another stir.

“She was off her face, throwing drinks around and turning over tables,” an onlooker told the paper.

If Winehouse is charged and later convicted of assault, she faces penalties of up to $4,000 in fines and up to six months in jail.

Reps for Winehouse had no comment when contacted by Access Hollywood.
