Hollywood is mourning the loss of a TV and comedy legend. Bob Newhart died on Thursday at age 94, Access Hollywood has learned.
The actor’s publicist, Jerry Digney, confirmed the sad news in a lengthy statement to Access, noting that Newhart passed away in his Los Angeles home at approximately 10:45 a.m. PDT. An official cause of death has yet to be made public but he suffered “a series of short illnesses,” per Digney.
Newhart has been a beloved entertainment icon since his breakout 1960 stand-up album “The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart” won two Grammys including Album of the Year.

The performer notably won his first Emmy in 2013 for a guest-starring role on “The Big Bang Theory” and had a memorable turn in the classic Will Ferrell holiday movie “Elf.” He was also awarded the Kennedy Center’s Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2002.
Newhart’s loss comes one year after his wife of six decades, Ginny Quinn, died in April 2023.
