Billie Lourd is turning to music to help her through a particularly tough day.
On Thursday – the second anniversary of the death of her mother, Carrie Fisher – the “American Horror Story” actress shared a video of herself sitting at a wooden grand piano.
The instrument has special significance within her family history: it was given to the late “Star Wars” legend by her father, singer Eddie Fisher.
“It has been two years since my Momby’s death and I still don’t know what the ‘right’ thing to do on a death anniversary is (I’m sure a lot of you feel the same way about your loved ones),” she reflected. “So I decided to do something a little vulnerable for me, but something we both loved to do together – sing.”
At the start of the video, Billie plays the opening chords of the Jackson Brown classic “These Days,” her eyes fixed on the keys. As she reaches the first verse, she belts out lyrics, showcasing her rich, expressive singing voice.
“This was one of [my mom’s] favorite songs,” the 26-year-old continued. “And as the song says, we must ‘keep on moving.’ I’ve found that what keeps me moving is doing things that make me happy, working hard on the things that I’m passionate about and surrounding myself with people I love and making them smile.”
On Dec. 23, 2016, Carrie suffered a medical emergency while aboard a flight from London to Los Angeles, and she was quickly hospitalized upon landing.
Four days later, the “Catastrophe” actress passed away at age 60.

“I hope this encourages anyone feeling a little low or lost to ‘keep on moving,’ she wrote. “As my Momby once said, ‘take your broken heart and turn it into art’ – whatever that art may be for you.”
