Antoine Dove may have lost an impressive 150 pounds as a contestant on “The Biggest Loser,” but on Tuesday night’s finale, he gained something very special – a fiancee.
During the season finale, which saw Danny Cahill shed a record-setting 239 pounds to claim the title, it was 23-year-old Antoine who pulled off the night’s biggest surprise, as he got down on one knee on live TV to ask fellow “Biggest Loser” contestant Alexandra White to marry him.
So did Alexandra, who was voted off the show in the first week, have any idea it was coming?
“Oh my gosh, no!” she told Access Hollywood after the finale. “I had no idea, but it’s definitely a pleasant surprise!”
And while the couple began dating after meeting during the season, their romance was carried out via long distance relationship, as Antoine lives in North Carolina and Alexandra is based in New York.
Now it appears that’s all going to change.
“We were doing the long distance thing, but we’re going to see what happens next in terms of living situations,” Antoine explained. “She wants to finish school and stuff and I want to get some things… I’ll probably end up moving closer to her, up around the way in the New York area and spend time with her.”
In fact, it was their time on the “Biggest Loser” that found them both looking for someone to share the journey with.
“We learned a lot through this process – about couples, weight loss and where we wanted to go, and what it takes in terms of companionship,” Antoine added.
And now that they’ve dropped the weight, Alexandra said they will rely on each other to make sure they never go back to their old bad habits.
“This is our new lifestyle. It wasn’t just a game for us. It’s a new life and we can never go back to our old ways and we already vowed to do that,” she explained. “We pushed each other when we didn’t want to be pushed. We both have a sense of empowerment because we did it. We accomplished something that we thought couldn’t be done.”
But for Antoine, Tuesday’s finale wasn’t just about the nerves of debuting his new body on national TV – he also had the proposal on his mind.
“I was very nervous!” he admitted. “But I knew in my heart I was doing the right thing.”
