Beyoncé made sure Jay-Z’s birthday was a special one!
The “Family Feud” rapper turned 49 on Tuesday during a trip to South Africa, two days after he and his musical wife headlined the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 concert in Johannesburg.
As Jay celebrated his big day with large group of pals, Bey grabbed the mic and serenaded her main squeeze with “Happy Birthday.”
South African DJ Black Coffee – whose wife collaborated on the design of one of Beyoncé’s Global Citizen Fest looks – documented the sweet sing-along on Instagram.
While Beyoncé belted out the first few lines of the birthday classic, the proud wife backed off the mic as the chorus of partygoers picked up steam, loudly singing in unison to the guest of honor.
Jay was visibly moved by the group’s well wishes, grinning and embracing one of his friends throughout the song.

Bey wasn’t the only family member that paid tribute to Jay on his birthday. The MC’s mother-in-law, Tina Knowles, gushed over him in a lengthy Instagram tribute, calling the father of three of her grandchildren “amazingly talented, super smart, gracious, classy” and “filled with swag.”
Tina also commended Jay for showing loyalty to his friends, for doing “so much for [their] Culture,” and for being an “incredible husband” to her eldest daughter.
“I could not be more happy to have you in my family and could not be more happy to be in yours,” she wrote.
Tuesday marked the close of a monumental year for Jay, both personally and professionally. In April, he and Beyoncé celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary and renewed their vows to celebrate the milestone.
Two months later, the longtime lovebirds took their music on the road for their “On The Run II” tour. Following their fifth tour date, they surprised fans with the release of “Everything is Love,” their first collaborative album.
We can’t wait to see what the year to come brings for Jay!
