When she announced she was expecting in February, the pro surfer said she was planning on staying out in the waters of Hawaii for as long as possible.
“I’ve been surfing throughout my whole pregnancy,” she said at the time in a Facebook video, naming off a few well-known surfing spots in Hawaii, including the renowned Pipeline. “I plan to surf as long as I can. Once the belly’s pretty big maybe just mellow it out, and spend more time swimming and just enjoying the ocean and doing other activities.”

She also addressed facing the challenges of motherhood with one arm, saying she was ready for whatever came her way.
“I’ve been thinking about it, but I often forget that I have one arm,” she explained. “When I think about it, a squirming baby and changing the diaper … I think how I live life, just adjust and adapt to different things, especially things that are a lot easier with two arms.”
Adding, “There’s going to be things that will be very challenging with one arm, but I’ll just have to find my own way to take care of this baby. Of course, I’ll have Adam to help, but if he’s out and about busy, I’ll have to … figure it out and be creative.”
Bethany and Adam wed in August 2013.
