The force is strong with Adam Driver! Ben Affleck shared a sweet story on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” about how the “Star Wars” actor saved the day at his 8-year-old son Samuel’s surprise party.
Ben explained that, while filming a movie with Adam in France, he requested a day off to celebrate his son’s birthday. “I’m a divorced dad, I get half the time with my son, and, you know, it was his birthday! So I said to them, I’ll do whatever the schedule needs, but the 27th, I’ve got to be in LA.”
Ben’s son Samuel was excited to hear his dad would be working with Kylo Ren himself: “My son knows that I do movies that are kinda fake, and his mom does movies and that’s all pretend. But he also knows that Star Wars is real,” Ben quipped. “So I told him, ‘I’m actually in this movie with Kylo Ren.’ And his mind, like, opened in two. He was like, ‘Dad, but how! How do you know Kylo Ren? Are you going to space? Will he have his light saber?’”
Ben told Adam that his son was a fan, so the actor recorded a special message for Samuel. Ben set up for presents to be delivered to the party, and took the 11-hour trip to Los Angeles.
Unfortunately, when Ben arrived to his house, he was informed that the presents didn’t arrive in time. “So I had to show up to my son’s party with no gift for him. And it was like, this sort of sinking awful feeling.”
However, Ben was swiftly informed that Adam heard it was Samuel’s birthday, so he called Ben’s assistant, got his address, and sent along presents, a card, and a signed photo of Kylo Ren.
Ben explained to his son that, while his gifts didn’t arrive on time, there was a silver lining: “I did get a present from somebody who really wanted to make sure you had a gift.”
“He opened the presents, I played him the video of Kylo Ren, and it was like…an incredibly moving and powerful moment,” Ben recounted. “Adam made me a hero to my kid, and I will never, ever forget that.”
Ben ended the anecdote with a sweet message about thoughtfulness: “It’s a really good lesson in doing those small gestures of kindness, because you have no idea. And it meant the f***ing world.”
