‘Finding Dory’ Breaks Animated Feature Box Office Records

“Finding Dory” is officially the record holder for top animated opening of all time in North American theaters, unseating “Shrek The Third.”

It’s final weekend tally of $135.1 million released Monday was a home run for Disney and Pixar, even though it was just a gill shy of Sunday’s initial estimate of $136.2 million.

Meanwhile, the buddy action comedy “Central Intelligence,” starring Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson, came in slightly above initial estimates with a strong $35.5 million debut weekend.

“The Conjuring,” ”Now You See Me 2″ and “Warcraft,” all of which opened last weekend, rounded out the top five.

The top 20 movies at U.S. and Canadian theaters Friday through Sunday, followed by distribution studio, gross, number of theater locations, average receipts per location, total gross and number of weeks in release, as compiled Monday by comScore:
