‘Anora’ Star Mikey Madison Channels Old Hollywood Glamour At LA Premiere Amid Early Oscar Buzz

A sparkle came over Hollywood at the Vista theater on Oct. 1, where Mikey Madison appeared on behalf of her acclaimed new film “Anora.”

The actress posed in a white one-shouldered gown in her hometown of Los Angeles before joining her castmates at the event, including Russian-born actor Mark Eidelstein, whom the internet has been quick to nickname the “Russian Timothée Chalamet.”

The comedy-drama, directed by Sean Baker, follows Madison’s Anora, an exotic dancer from Brooklyn whose marriage to the son of a Russian oligarch leads her into an entangled journey through New York City and beyond.

Anora’s character is drawing comparisons to Julia Roberts’ Vivian Ward in “Pretty Woman” – the role that led Roberts to her first Best Actress Oscar nomination, and pundits are predicting Madison may be following a similar path.

Though Madison has appeared in films like “Once Upon a Time In Hollywood” and “Scream,” this star turn has the 25-year-old leading the conversation for this year’s Best Actress Oscar, in the pool with Oscar veterans like Angelina Jolie (“Maria”), Saoirse Ronan (“The Outrun”), Tilda Swinton (“The Room Next Door”), and Venice Film Festival award recipient Nicole Kidman (“Babygirl”), along with Brazilian-actress Fernanda Torres (“I’m Still Here”), and Spanish-actress Karla Sofía Gascón (“Emilia Pérez”), who was a honored alongside Selena Gomez at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. Gomez is also receiving awards attention in the supporting category, and told Access Hollywood she is “shaking” at the thought.

Access also recently spoke with Jolie at the New York Film Festival, where she said of the Oscar buzz, “it means a lot that somebody thinks you did a good job, right, and that means everything to me.”

“Anora” is in theaters Oct. 18.
