‘America’s Got Talent’ Stars: Piers Morgan Would Make A Great Larry King

Piers Morgan appears to be closing in on CNN’s coveted 9 PM talk show spot, which is opening up this fall when Larry King says goodbye to his “Larry King Live” program, and the “America’s Got Talent” judge’s co-stars gave him a ringing endorsement on Wednesday.

“If that happens, I just want to see if he can hook me up with an interview!” “AGT” host Nick Cannon joked to Access Hollywood on Wednesday. “Piers Morgan would be amazing at that job. For the people over here in the states that may not be familiar with his background, he’s been in journalism for decades. Extremely knowledgeable, witty – I think the show would go where Larry’s taken it and beyond.”

Fellow judge Howie Mandel called his British colleague “a wonderful choice.”

“I don’t know that America knows how fine a journalist he is,” Howie said. “Even though on this show, my biggest goal is to annoy that man, and I do very well at it… I think he’s a brilliant journalist and [interviewer]. I go to dinner with him and it’s an interview!”

Piers himself told Access he had the chops for the position, though he explained he couldn’t “confirm or deny anything at the moment.”

“It’s one of the biggest jobs in the world in terms of television interviewing,” he said before discussing his experience. “Back in Britain, I’m primarily known as a TV interviewer… I’m used to interviewing prime ministers and TV stars over there quite regularly.”

The former News of the World and Daily Mirror editor added, however, that no one could compare with Larry.

“Larry King’s suspenders are the biggest suspenders to fill in TV history. The guy, in my view, in terms of interviewing, is peerless,” Piers said.
