American Hustle: Bradley Cooper Talks Hair-Curling Transformation

Bradley Cooper sports a tight curled ‘do in “American Hustle,” something the former Sexiest Man Alive said was inspired by ‘70s baseball players.

Access Hollywood chatted with the actor about his hair transformation, a process that took three hours every day to achieve.

“A lot of black baseball players at the time curled their hair,” he said of his Richie DiMaso character, in the David O. Russell-directed film. “I think that’s his inspiration [behind the look].”

“It was three hours, every day and 110 of those pink curlers,” he explained of his hairstyling, which also included a darkening mousse and dying his beard.

And Bradley isn’t the only star in the movie sporting a hair transformation. Access also chatted with Christian Bale about creating his less-than-full hairstyle.

“He’s a con artist with this comb over,” he said of his Irving Rosenfeld character. “Who’s he conning with that comb over? Nobody believes he’s got a full head of hair! I just really gravitated towards the guy and became obsessed with that look.”

“American Hustle,” also starring Jennifer Lawrence, Jeremy Renner and Amy Adams, opens in theaters on December 13, 2013.
