Following the painful and shocking demise of her two-week- long marriage back in 2004, “Hollywood Girls Night” star Ali Landry wanted to take her time with next relationship – so much so, that she and current husband Alejandro Monteverde waited until after their wedding to consummate their relationship.
“Because of the situation I was in before, I was just treading lightly and did not want to make any mistakes in this relationship,” Ali told Wendy Williams on Thursday’s “The Wendy Williams Show.” “We abstained from having sex until we got married.”
The actress/former Miss USA also revealed how she initially discovered her ex-husband (former “Saved by the Bell” actor Mario Lopez), had allegedly cheated on her – causing her to seek an annulment just two weeks after their trip down the aisle.
“I had heard something right before the wedding. He swore that it was not true, nothing was true, but I had that feeling in my gut,” she told Wendy. “All of my family was flying [in] — it was a destination wedding — and I really should have put the brakes on it at that point, [but] I was afraid.”
A friend with phone-tapping knowledge suggested she tap her now-ex-husband’s phone, which Ali claims to the discovery of his infidelity.
“Right after the honeymoon I started getting phone calls from these girls,” she said. “I confronted him and he still — to this day — denied it and never apologized. It was horrible.”
The actress sought solace in religion.
“I was so side-swiped by the whole thing the only place I got answers was I read the bible every single day – I mean, truly, for me, that was it,” she told Wendy. “I read the bible, I learned a lot about myself and I’m a better woman because of it.”
Ali’s spiritual journey led her to a theology class, where she met her director husband, who she wed in 2006. They have two children together – daughter Estela, 4, and son Marcelo, 5 months.
“He was the person I was meant to be with,” she said. “So, I’m very grateful that happened because I would not be where I am now.
