Abby Sunderland was only recently rescued after being stranded at sea, but she may be heading for a new adventure already – the reality TV world.
According to the NY Post, Abby’s dad, Laurence, signed a deal for a reality show several months ago.
“The show might be about family, it might be about Abigail’s trip. It’s something that was shopped around,” he told the newspaper.

It appears Magnetic Entertainment is indeed making two projects – “Abby’s Journey,” billed on the company’s website as a documentary, and “Adventures in Sunderland,” which will be a reality TV show.
“We follow the family in their day-to-day lives as shipbuilder Laurence Sunderland and mother/teacher Marianne try to balance work and family,” reads a description on the company’s website. “Their philosophy on building strong well rounded adults is to mentor their seven home schooled children into setting goals, creating a plan to reach those goals, and implementing them… allowing each of them to pursue their dreams of becoming world class adventurers.”
The dad reportedly told the Post that he inked the deal for the show because of financial problems. He reportedly signed the reality show deal not long after Abigail launched her around the world adventure, which ended last week in the Indian Ocean after she had to be rescued.
Later on Monday, the Associated Press reported that a spokesperson for the Sunderland family said they had no plans for a reality TV show. The spokesman said he talked with Laurence on Monday, and a show was discussed last year when Zac Sunderland, the family’s eldest child sailed around the world, but things did not come to fruition.
