Cheyenne Jackson is headed to “Glee.”
The blue-eyed Broadway star and “30 Rock” guest star (he plays Danny Baker, the former street performer hired as a regular on the fictional sketch comedy which Tina Fey’s Liz Lemon writes and produces), has lined up a stint as a vocal coach on the FOX program, a source told Access Hollywood.
According to Entertainment Weekly, which first reported the story, Cheyenne will replace Idina Menzel (who plays Shelby Corcoran) as the instructor for Vocal Adrenaline, and Rachel Berry’s mother. The choir group is the rival to New Directions, the name of the “Glee” gang’s group, coached by Matthew Morrison’s character, Will Schuester.
While the “Glee” cast didn’t know about the Cheyenne news – or, at least, wasn’t allowed to say anything – at Tuesday night’s event for the show in Los Angeles, Lea Michele, who plays choir queen Rachel, said she was hoping for more scenes with Idina.
“I don’t know what they’re going to do with that storyline… I would love to work with Idina again, as well as Kristen [Chenoweth],” Lea told Access Hollywood. “I love all of our guest stars but I haven’t heard anything.”
