Tears slid down Hines Ward’s face after finishing his first number with professional dance partner Kym Johnson on “Dancing with the Stars” last night, and he revealed seeing the footage of her accident, played just before they went on, led to his emotional reaction.
“I try not to watch the replay, but I caught the second part of it — I didn’t know they was going to replay it like that and I really got sick to my stomach,” Hines told Access Hollywood’s guest correspondent Jayde Donovan, following last night’s “DWTS.” “I was really emotional because, you know, we just did our dance and I was just happy that she’s dancing again.”
Hines and Kym scored perfect 30s for their two dances – an Argentine tango and a salsa — on Monday night, but the Steelers football star wasn’t concerned about the numbers.
“It really didn’t matter about the scores. You have to put things in perspective — we’re in it to win it, but at the same time, I’m glad that she’s standing and doing something that she’s loved to do over again, so I’m very happy,” he said.
Although Hines caught a few glimpses of the brutal rehearsal fall, Kym has vowed to never watch.
“I was told not to watch it, so I haven’t seen [it],” she said. “I don’t want to really see it because the doctor saw it when we went to the hospital and they even — I mean, they see everything and I saw the doctor’s reaction, so I was like, ‘Oh, I’m never watching that.’”
As for her official diagnosis, Hines said Kym has a, “sprained vertebra” and she “sprained some muscles.”
“I’m walking,” Kym added. “So it’s all good.”
