Emma Watson’s Hermione Grainger and her Hogwarts brethren fulfill their destiny this weekend with “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” hitting movie theaters and Access Hollywood is taking a look back in time to when the young actress first landed the part.
The 21-year-old British actress was still just a schoolgirl when Access first sat down with her in 2001 as she promoted the first installment “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” and she revealed she actually learned she scored the role alongside the young man who would eventually be her big screen love interest.
“I was asked up to [Producer] David Heymen’s office with Rupert [Grint],” an enthusiastic 11-year-old Emma told Access at the time. “[He] sat me down and said, ‘You’ve got the part.’ Ahhh! It was so cool. Best experience of my life. Scariest experience of my life. Too much to take in. I was in awe.”
Emma revealed that the job came about as a happy accident when some casting agents visited British schools looking for actors to portray Harry, Hermione, Ron, Draco and the rest.
“Basically some [casting agents] came around some schools and said, ‘Do you have,’ I don’t know, ‘16 children who would like to audition?’” Emma recounted back at that first interview. “The audition took place in my school gym and it was exactly like a drama lesson… and it was just fun.”
