Pattie Mallette Talks Justin Bieber’s Tabloid Troubles, New Film Crescendo & Staying In Touch With Selena Gomez

Justin Bieber’s mom, Pattie Mallette, stopped by Access Hollywood Live on Wednesday, where she discussed her new film “Crescendo” and her son’s seemingly ever-increasing tabloid headlines.

Is she alarmed by any of his recent antics?

“Him being 19, you know, I’ve just gotta let go a little and let him make some of his own decisions,” Pattie – who executive produced the new movie “Crescendo,” the story of Beethoven’s mother and her decision to keep her baby despite her young age and an abusive husband – told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover.

“He’s growing up. He’s 19. He’s not my baby,” she added. “I want to be able to take away free will sometimes and be able to do everything for him, but…”

Justin and longtime girlfriend Selena Gomez recently broke up and Pattie said she and Selena have stayed in touch despite the split.

“[Selena’s] a sweetheart. I’ll always love and respect her,” she said. “Whatever Justin chooses – obviously, it’s his life.”

Adding, “I’ve talked to her [since the breakup].”

As for Pattie’s new short film, the young mom (who got pregnant with Justin at age 17) said she was inspired to make “Crescendo” by the many similarities between her and the main character in the story, Beethoven’s mother.

“We both have a musical son and just the fact that she tried to take her own life… I tried to take my life when I was 17,” Pattie shared.

The film will help raise money for crisis pregnancy centers, much like the home Pattie resided in during her pregnancy.

“I don’t know where we’d be today without that place,” she said. “The center that I lived in had to close its doors for lack of funds. I want to make sure that that doesn’t happen.”
